Deel is the leading global payroll and HR platform, enabling businesses of all sizes to hire, onboard, manage, and pay employees and contractors across 150+ countries without establishing local legal entities. Founded in 2019 by CEO Alex Bouaziz and CRO Shuo Wang in San Francisco, Deel has grown from $0 to $1.4B+ in annual recurring revenue in under six years — one of the fastest SaaS companies to reach that milestone. The platform consolidates what traditionally required dozens of vendors: HRIS, global payroll, employer of record (EOR) services, contractor management, compliance, immigration, benefits administration, performance management, and device management into a single system. Deel's owned payroll infrastructure now spans 55+ countries with full in-house payroll engines, and 150+ countries total for contractor payments. The company owns 250+ legal entities globally — meaning Deel itself is the employer of record, handling local tax filings, pension contributions, and compliance obligations on behalf of its customers. This vertical integration is Deel's core competitive moat. Competitors who use third-party local partners face reliability, speed, and pricing constraints that Deel avoids by owning the full stack. The approach has driven extraordinary product adoption: customers using three or more Deel products grew 480% in 2024-2025; those using four or more grew 1,200%. Enterprise clients include LEGO, Puma, Klarna, FedEx, Nubank, Palantir, Fidelity, and Arsenal FC. Commercially, Deel surpassed $1B ARR in Q1 2025, has been profitable for three consecutive years, and processes $22B in payroll annually across 1.5 million workers for 40,000+ businesses. The company recorded its first $100M revenue month in September 2025. Revenue has grown 75% year-over-year with EBITDA margins of approximately 15-17%. Funding history: Series A $14M (May 2020, Andreessen Horowitz), Series B $48M (September 2020, Spark Capital), Series C $156M (April 2021, YC Continuity + a16z, $1.25B valuation), Series D $425M (October 2021, Coatue + DST Global, $5.5B valuation), Series D+ $50M (May 2022, Emerson Collective, $12B valuation), Series E $300M (October 2025, Ribbit Capital + a16z, $17.3B valuation). Total equity raised: approximately $986M. IPO preparations are actively underway. In November 2025, Deel appointed Joe Kauffman — former CFO, President, and CEO of Credit Karma — as President and CFO, the clearest possible signal of public-market readiness. CEO Bouaziz has publicly targeted an IPO as early as 2026. The company has also hired a Chief Risk Officer, Chief Compliance Officer, and General Counsel in 2025, building out the governance infrastructure required for a public company. The primary overhang is ongoing litigation with Rippling, which filed suit alleging corporate espionage in March 2025; Deel has countersued. Resolution of this dispute is likely a precondition for a smooth IPO process.
